Dear friends

It’s a year since my husband Mark suffered multiple and serious injuries in a racing crash at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent. As well as breaking ribs, puncturing both lungs and suffering serious injuries to his left leg, Mark received a serious brain injury that left him unconscious. He spent the subsequent three weeks in a coma in the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, where he was taken by the London Air Ambulance.

Today Mark is recovering well and is spending his weekends at home with me, and he spends his weekdays at a brain injury rehabilitation centre in Northamptonshire. He has made amazing progress in the 12 months since the accident. He is now walking unaided and has even started ballroom dancing lessons with me, which would not have seemed possible just a few months ago. Having seen the efforts he has invested, and the recovery he’s made, I’m proud to say he’s my husband.

I’m convinced this recovery would not have been possible without the services of the London Air Ambulance, who flew in to Brands Hatch in fading light to collect Mark as his life hung in the balance. Air Ambulances across Britain are run as charities and myself, close friends and family have spent nine months raising funds for the London Air Ambulance, so far reaching £3500.

With the aid of my friend, Sam, we’re aiming to raise the final £1500 to reach my target of £5000 for the London Air Ambulance. We’re taking part in a 10km run round London, it seems apt to take part in this as it’s where I spent the first six weeks of Mark’s recovery.

Another group of our friends and family are aiming to raise a further £5000 by cycling from the western to eastern coast of England.
